Describe your wedding:
Location/ style / vibe/ fave thing about your day?
Our wedding was at Enoch Turner Schoolhouse in Toronto. It was the cutest/chilliest venue ever. Fall and Halloween are my favourite things, so we gave a subtle nod to both in the theme of our wedding. We spray painted hundreds of pumpkins gold and lined the aisle with them, placed small ones on the tables and made my dream pumpkin patch outside the venue for guests to check out and even sit on the massive pumpkins to have a drink. Our flowers were deep and romantic. We had about 75 guests which was the perfect number because we got to talk to all our guests and party with them. The night ended in a massive dance party… I got very sweaty. The whole thing felt like a fairytale.
What does marriage mean to you?
Marriage feels like home to me. We had one of our best friends do the reading at our wedding and it was taken from Laurie Anderson’s farewell letter to Lou Reed. In it she says I guess there are lots of ways to get married. Some people marry someone they hardly know – which can work out, too. When you marry your best friend of many years, there should be another name for it. That’s how it is with Cody. We are very independent people but I feel like we were written. There was something larger at play that brought us together and no matter where we are, even if we’re not together, there is this magic that holds us together and I can feel safe knowing that he exists.
What's the one piece of advice you could give to brides?
Please just try to have fun. Weddings can somehow get stressful during the planning process, but once you make it to the finish line, you see how truly beautiful it is and that all that really matters is you and your person. I had the best time on my wedding day… Don’t overthink it and DO NOT compromise on your dress. Wear the dress of your dreams. The way you feel on that day, in your amazing dress (by &FORLOVE J), so proud next to your husband will stay with you forever. Also, don’t marry anyone unless you feel like you were created for each other.
Life post-wedding means ....
Closing the doors of privacy once again now that the wedding is over! And then throwing them open once again to find fabulous parties to show off my amazing new hardware.
